Presentation and Q & A session with: Sydney English

Sydney English is a first-year associate at Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner LLP.

Ms. English was born and raised in Durham, North Carolina. She graduated from North Carolina State University with two B.S. degrees in Fashion and Textile Management and Textile Technology. After receiving her undergraduate education, Ms. English worked as an assistant product manager developing product lines for the private brand division of Belk department stores. In addition to her love of fashion, she attributes her interest in intellectual property to regularly collaborating with Belk’s legal department to design around potential trademark, copyright, and design patent infringement claims.

After working for over two years, Ms. English left her job in fashion to pursue a legal career. She obtained her legal education from The George Washington University Law School. While in school, Ms. English was named a recipient of the Sidney B. Williams Jr., Intellectual Property Law Scholarship, which was developed and funded by the American Intellectual Property Law Education Foundation. She also served as a student intern at the Eastern District of Virginia for one semester and worked part-time at Finnegan during her 3L year.

Now at Finnegan, Ms. English focuses her practice on trademark prosecution, trademark litigation, and false advertising. She assists with counseling clients on the selection, registration, maintenance, portfolio management, and enforcement of trademarks in the United States and abroad. Her experience extends across multiple industries, including food and beverage, sports equipment and apparel, automotive, textiles and fashion. Ms. English hopes to leverage her experiences in design, branding and product development to further advance her legal career.
